The Happy Ferry is a passenger ferry service between Paihia and Russell in the Bay of Islands. The ferries run every day from 9 am to 5 pm (except for Christmas Day), making it the most direct way to travel between these beautiful towns.

How much does it cost?

A trip on the passenger ferry costs $17 per adult and $9 per child. A family pass (for two adults and three children) is $36, and children under 4 go free. These prices are one-way, and there is no discount for a return fare.

However, if you have a car and are travelling in a group (three or more), I recommend taking the ferry from Opua to Okiato. It's not as direct, but it costs $18 one way per car, so it works out a lot cheaper! We usually travel with four adults and save about $108 on our return trip!!!

Tickets can be purchased on board with cash, via the Information Centre, or from the ticket machine on Paihia Wharf.
