The downtown ferry terminal isn’t so much a “thing to do” as it is an important pin on the Auckland map as the gateway to places like Waiheke Island, Devonport and Rangitoto. The terminal is located on Quay Street, right at the end of Queen Street.

It’s huge; you quite literally can’t miss it. The ferry terminal is well organised and easy to get around, unlike other transport hubs I’ve been to (Istanbul airport, I’m looking at you). When you arrive, you’ll find toilets plus a few cafes if you need something to eat or drink. Then, get your tickets and follow the signs to the right ferry.
