You know what they say: "Did you really visit Queenstown if you didn’t go to Fergburger?"
Fergburger is one of New Zealand’s most famous burger joints and has built an international cult following on social media. They are open every day from 8 am to 4:30 am (yep - almost 24/7) and no matter what time you drive past, you’re sure to see a line of people waiting outside to get a bite.
They have a huge menu packed with classics like "The Fergburger" (Prime NZ beef and cheese) and unique twists like "Bombay Chicken" (chilli and ginger chicken with cucumber raita and mango chutney). They also serve breakfast burgers, milkshakes, beers, sides—the list goes on!
My honest opinion
I personally think that Fergburger, while good, is very overhyped. Maybe I’m a Negative Nancy, and I’m willing to put my hands up and say sorry, but I think it tastes like a really good burger your uncle makes at a family BBQ. Is it good? Absolutely. Is it the best burger I’ve ever had? No. Is it worth waiting in line for two hours? Absolutely not.
If you must try Fergburger while you’re in Queenstown (I don’t blame you, it’s world-famous), here’s how you can avoid the ridiculous wait:
Order your burgers online and pick them up when they're ready. It takes a while to get through to their team, but if you can catch them, you'll be able to skip the two-hour wait.
Go to Ferbutcher instead. They sell burgers too, with a much shorter queue!
Would I go back? Probably, but only if the line is short. If you’re in Queenstown, it’s probably worth experiencing once. But, if you'd rather not eat your lunch at dinnertime, there are plenty of other wonderful Queenstown restaurants to choose from.
