Ucluelet is a small community with a population of about 2,200, located on the northern edge of Barkley Sound. Its name comes from the Nuu-chah-nulth phrase, Yu-clutl-ahts, which means "safe harbour" or "safe landing place."

Situated in a calm inlet, Ucluelet is relatively sheltered and has a more laid-back vibe compared to Tofino, making it less crowded as well. The waterfront area features a not-for-profit aquarium that operates on a catch-and-release basis only.

Ucluelet is a great place to join a guided kayak adventure or whale watching tour. There are plenty of hiking opportunities too.
