This is a Zurich institution gem in the heart of the Old Town. The building itself is already worth a visit: it has been around since 1802, and was the first wine bar in Zurich! The name Oepfelchammer means “Apple Room”: It used to be a storage for apples for a nearby convent.

There is also a unique tradition here: if you can climb over the wall beams and drink a glass of wine upside down, you can carve your names onto the walls and tables!

The Oepfelchammer is all about serving up the best dishes from Zurich and the surrounding region, using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Think Niederdord salad, rosti sausages with lentils and potatos, pork shoulder with sauerkrau, apple, horse radish and potatoes.

Vegetarian options are available too.
