Frequent Eruptions: Strokkur erupts every 5 to 10 minutes, making it one of the most reliable geysers in the world. The water column can reach heights of 15 to 20 meters (49 to 66 feet), and sometimes even up to 40 meters (131 feet).
Best Time to Visit: Strokkur can be visited year-round. If you want to avoid the crowds plan to arrive before 10 AM or later in the afternoon
Facilities: The Geysir Visitor Center, located near the parking area, offers restrooms, a café, a restaurant, and a gift shop. Information about the geothermal area and the natural history of geysers is also available.

While some may find the trek worth it for the unique color of Brúarfoss, others may prefer to skip it for more time-efficient activities in Iceland.

Location: Gljúfrabúi is located in a narrow canyon, approximately 500 meters (0.3 miles) north of Seljalandsfoss, along the southern coast of Iceland.
Accessibility: To reach Gljúfrabúi, park at the parking lot for Seljalandsfoss and walk north along the marked trail for about 5-10 minutes. The waterfall is hidden inside a narrow gorge, so you'll need to wade through a shallow stream or navigate over rocks to get closer to the base of the falls.
More info: Gljúfrabúi is known for its unique setting inside a narrow and mossy canyon. The waterfall drops approximately 40 meters (131 feet) from the top of the canyon down to a small pool at the base.
Best Time to Visit: Gljúfrabúi can be visited year-round. Summer (June to August) offers the best weather for exploring the area but be prepared for more tourists during this time. In winter (December to February), the waterfall can freeze, creating a stunning icy landscape. Go before 10 AM or later in the afternoon if you want to avoid the crowds.
What to wear: Wear sturdy waterproof shoes or boots if you plan to walk into the canyon, as the ground can be uneven and slippery. Waterproof Jacket and pants are also recommended if you plan to go into the canyon

Best Time to Visit: Seljalandsfoss can be visited year-round. Summer (June to August) offers lush green surroundings and mild weather. During winter (December to February), the waterfall and the surrounding area can be covered in ice and snow, creating a magical winter wonderland, though the path behind the waterfall may be closed for safety.
Peak Times: Seljalandsfoss is a popular tourist destination and can be crowded, especially during peak tourist season. Early morning or late evening visits can provide a more tranquil experience.

Best Time to Visit: Skógafoss can be visited year-round. Summer (June to August) offers lush green landscapes and milder weather, while winter (December to February) provides a chance to see the waterfall surrounded by snow and ice. Skógafoss is a popular destination, so visiting early in the morning or late in the evening can help avoid the crowds.
Photography: The waterfall is a favorite spot for photographers. The best times for photography are during sunrise or sunset when the lighting is softer, and the chances of capturing rainbows are higher.

Hiking Trail: From the parking lot, it is a 3.5 to 4-kilometer (2.2 to 2.5 miles) hike (one way) to the wreckage. The trail is flat and well-marked but can be exposed to the elements, so come prepared with proper clothing and footwear. If you don't want to walk there is a shuttle bus that will take you there but it is 2900 ISK roundtrip(23 USD)
Best Time to Visit: The wreck can be visited year-round, but weather conditions can vary significantly. Summer offers milder weather, while winter can bring snow and strong winds.
Time and Preparation: The round-trip hike takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, so allocate sufficient time for the visit. Carry water, and snacks, and wear suitable clothing for changing weather conditions.
Facilities: There are no facilities at the plane wreck or the parking area. The nearest facilities are in the towns of Vík or Skógar.

Best Time to Visit: Summer (June to August) offers milder weather and abundant birdlife, including puffins. However, Dyrhólaey can be visited year-round, each season offering its unique charm. Winter visits can be spectacular but require more preparation due to weather conditions.
Photography: The viewpoint is a paradise for photographers. Sunrise and sunset provide the best lighting for capturing the dramatic scenery. The contrast between the black sand beaches and the white waves is particularly striking.
Facilities: There are no facilities at the viewpoint itself. The nearest amenities, including restrooms and restaurants, can be found in the nearby town of Vík.

Best Time to Visit: Reynisfjara Beach can be visited year-round. Summer (June to August) offers milder weather, while winter (December to February) provides a stark and beautiful contrast with snow on the black sand.
Reynisfjara is known for its powerful and unpredictable sneaker waves, which can surge far up the beach without warning. It is crucial to stay well back from the water and remain vigilant.

Hidden oasis in South Iceland
Info: Þakgil is a hidden gem in South Iceland, nestled between Mýrdalsjökull glacier and Mýrdalssandur. Known as the "Roof Canyon," it's like an oasis with lush green valleys and spiky mountains covered in velvety moss.
Accessibility:: the best way to reach Thakgil is with your car. The road road until there is not paved and I would recommend you to have a 4WD vehicle. It is possible to get there in a normal car, but I would advise against it
Things to do: Multiple hiking trails start from the campground, from a few minutes to a few hours. We decided to take the Ravine walk which was about 20 minutes
Where to spend the night: there is a campground located at Thakgil. If you don't travel with a camper van the closest town is Vik

▪️Be cautious while exploring. Some parts of the canyon can be steep and slippery, so watch your step.
▪️Stay on designated trails and platforms to protect the fragile vegetation and prevent erosion.

𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: you can park at the Skaftafell visitor center. The parking is not free.
𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: 2 miles roundtrip
𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆: you will need at least 3 hours taking into consideration the hiking time and the time spent at the waterfall
𝗘𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻: 460 feet

Accessibility: you will need a 4X4 car to get to the starting point of the hike. To get to the starting point add this to your GPS: "Turn to Mulagljufur Canyon" and from here you will have to drive on a gravel road.
Time necessary:: from the parking to the viewpoint you will have to hike for about 1 hour/1 hour and a half.

Location: Fjallsárlón is situated at the southern end of the Vatnajökull glacier, Iceland's largest glacier, in the Vatnajökull National Park. It is approximately 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) west of Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.
Accessibility: Fjallsárlón is accessible by car via Route 1 (the Ring Road). From Reykjavik, it is a drive of about 270 kilometers (168 miles) southeast. There is a parking area near the lagoon from where visitors can access viewpoints.
Boat Tours: Boat tours are available for visitors who want a closer look at the icebergs and the glacier.
Best Time to Visit: Fjallsárlón can be visited year-round, but the best time is during the summer months(June to August). This place is not so crowded and you can visit any time of the day.

Accessibility: The peninsula is accessible by car via the Ring Road (Route 1). From Höfn, it's a short drive east on Route 1, followed by a turn onto a gravel road leading to Stokksnes. The gravel road is well-maintained and suitable for most vehicles.

Vestrahorn Mountain: The highlight of the Stokksnes Peninsula is Vestrahorn, a dramatic mountain often called “Batman Mountain” due to its distinctive shape. The mountain rises sharply from the surrounding flatlands and black sand beaches.
Black Sand Beaches: The black sand dunes and beaches at Stokksnes provide a stunning contrast to the sharp peaks of Vestrahorn.
Reflections and Tidal Pools: The shallow tidal pools on the beach often create beautiful reflections of Vestrahorn,
Viking Village: Near the entrance to Stokksnes, there is a replica of Viking village built as a movie set. While the film project was never completed, the set remains and is an interesting site to explore.
Best Time to Visit: Stokksnes Peninsula can be visited year-round.

Icebergs on the Beach: Diamond Beach gets its name from the large chunks of ice that wash ashore from Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Best Time to Visit: Diamond Beach can be visited year-round, but during summer you might not find many diamonds on the beach. If you plan to avoid the crowds you should visit in the morning
