If you do decide to travel by train instead of car you need to know about one of the best-kept secrets of Swiss trains: the Family Carriage.

How to Find Them

• In the SBB Mobile App or on SBB.ch, look for the teddy bear icon 🧸 next to the train connection.

• Click on that train to see the train formation → the teddy bear shows you which carriage number it’s in and which section of the platform to wait at.

How to Reserve Seats

1. Pick your train connection.

2. Tap “Seat Reservation” (or “Seat Reservation Only” if you already have a Swiss Travel Pass or ticket).

3. Select the Family Compartment option.

4. Add adults + kids who need seats (no need to book for little ones who sit on laps).

💡 Pro Tip: Kids under 6 ride free without a ticket, and kids under 16 ride free with the Swiss Family Card (as long as they’re traveling with a parent who has a valid pass or ticket).
