So many options -Which Lucerne Hotel Should You Book?

Switzerland

Lucerne’s hotel options are spread between the city centre and the villages around Lake Lucerne. Staying in the city is easiest for sightseeing and train travel, while the lakeside hotels are better for swimming, mountain views and a slower resort-style stay.

Quick booking guide

For train travel and city sightseeing, book Hotel WaldstÀtterhof
For a memorable lakeside family stay, book Hotel Vitznauerhof (my personal favorite)
For lake views without being too far from Lucerne, book Seehotel Hermitage.
For a lower-priced central stay, choose Hotel Drei Könige or Hotel MĂŒnzgasse.
For an indoor pool, book Seehotel Pilatus.
For a luxury resort experience, choose BĂŒrgenstock Resort or Park Hotel Vitznau.

My top recommendations

Hotel Drei Könige – Best affordable traditional hotel
A great option for clients who want a quieter, reasonably priced hotel that is still within walking distance of the Old Town and main sights. Breakfast is included, reception is staffed 24 hours and the rooms are more traditional than trendy. Check availability.

For most first-time visitors: Hotel WaldstÀtterhof
This is the easiest choice for travelling by train. It is directly beside Lucerne station and a short walk from the lake, boat docks, Chapel Bridge and Old Town. Book this when convenience matters more than having a pool or lakefront setting. Triple rooms can accommodate families of up to four, but larger families may need two rooms. Check availability here.

For a special lakeside family stay: Hotel Vitznauerhof
This would be my pick when the hotel is meant to be part of the experience. We loved the lake access, mountain views and relaxed atmosphere, and the Lifestyle Family Room has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a lake-view loggia. Vitznau is also a brilliant base for Mount Rigi, and also works for Klewenalp, but it is better for a slower lakeside stay than for spending every day sightseeing in central Lucerne. Check rates.

More options by travel style

Hotel MĂŒnzgasse – Best basic Old Town location
Choose this if you want to stay directly in the Old Town and do not need a full-service hotel. It uses self-check-in and reservations are all handled online.

Seehotel Hermitage – Best lakefront stay close to Lucerne
This is the best compromise between a city break and a lakeside escape. It has direct lake access, water activities and lake-and-mountain views, while Lucerne’s city centre is approximately ten minutes away. Peaceful setting still close to the city! âžĄïž Check availability on Expedia.

Seehotel Pilatus – Best for an indoor pool
Located directly on the lake in Hergiswil, this is a good choice for families who prioritise swimming and wellness facilities. It has a large indoor pool and hot tub and works particularly well when Mount Pilatus is included in the itinerary. Check prices for your dates here

Park Hotel Vitznau – Best ultra-luxury lakeside splurge
This is an exclusive five-star retreat with private lake access, a heated infinity pool, spa and award-winning dining. It's the ultimate bucket list luxury lakeside hotel experience.. âžĄïž Check availability & offers

BĂŒrgenstock Resort – Best luxury destination resort
Choose BĂŒrgenstock when you want to spend real time enjoying the resort. It has a huge spa, dramatic views above the lake and a supervised kids club for children ages three to twelve. It is incredible for a luxury family escape, but not the most practical choice when the itinerary involves leaving early each morning for sightseeing around Lucerne. âžĄïž Check availability here
