Stoosbahnen
The Stoosbahnen is the famous funicular railway that connects the valley (Schwyz) with the car-free mountain village of Stoos. It holds the record as the steepest funicular in the world with a gradient of 110%—but thanks to its rotating barrel-shaped cabins, you always stay level. It feels a bit like stepping into a futuristic space pod, and kids usually love it.
How it works: The ride takes about 5 minutes, climbing 744 meters almost straight up the mountain. At the top, you arrive right in Stoos village, where chairlifts, hiking trails, and alpine restaurants are all within walking distance.
With kids: Super easy access—no steps, strollers welcome, and it’s much less intimidating than it looks from the outside. The ride itself is short but exciting.
