Montreux to Rochers-de-Naye Train
The cogwheel train from Montreux to Rochers-de-Naye is one of the most scenic rides in Switzerland and a big part of the adventure. In just under an hour, it climbs from the shores of Lake Geneva up to the summit at 2,042 m, where you’ll find sweeping views, marmots, and alpine gardens.
The ride: The train starts right in Montreux and winds through vineyards, forests, and alpine meadows before climbing steeply up into the clouds. The views over Lake Geneva get better with every turn.
With kids: The ride is slow and steady and kids usually love watching the landscape change as the train climbs higher. Tip: sit on the left on the way up for the best views! Bring a snack, since it’s about 55 minutes each way.
Stops: The line has several stations along the way, including Haut-de-Caux (a great place to hop off for the narcissus flower hike in May and the wild daffodil field in early June) before continuing up to the summit.
