Claim to fame: it was used in the recent Willy Wonka film! We loved running around the rounds and crossing the bridge over the moat to get inside.

History: Bodiam Castle, a 14th-century moated castle in East Sussex, England, was built by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge to defend against potential French invasions during the Hundred Years' War. With its picturesque ruins and unique design featuring no keep but instead various chambers around defensive walls and inner courts, the castle served as the home of the Dalyngrigge family before passing through several generations until it was dismantled after the English Civil War.

It's now part of The National Trust, so consider getting an annual pass if you're visiting lots of National Trust sites to save money!
