Rochers-de-Naye
High above Montreux, Rochers-de-Naye is a mountaintop that combines sweeping views of Lake Geneva with fun activities for kids. It’s easy to reach by the cogwheel train from Montreux, making it a great day trip without needing a car.
The ride: The train climbs for about an hour through forests, meadows, and tunnels before popping out at 2,000 m with jaw-dropping views.
At the top:
Visit the Marmot Paradise, a small park where you can see marmots up close in natural-style enclosures.
Stroll to the Jardin Alpin La Rambertia, an alpine garden with more than 1,000 mountain plant species.
Walk to the panoramic viewpoints where you can see from Lake Geneva all the way to Mont Blanc on a clear day.
With kids: The marmots are usually the highlight, but the open meadows and short paths around the summit keep it fun for all ages. Pack layers—it’s often much cooler and windier than Montreux.
