Staubbach Falls
Cascading almost 300 meters (980 ft) from the cliffs above Lauterbrunnen, Staubbach Falls is one of Switzerland’s most famous waterfalls—and the one that gives the valley its fairytale look. On windy days, the water turns to mist before it even reaches the ground, which is how it got its name (“Staub” means “dust”).
The vibe: Iconic and dramatic, best admired from the valley floor or the photo spot by the church, where the steeple and waterfall line up in one frame.
Getting closer: In summer, a short but steep trail leads to a cave path behind the waterfall for a different perspective. It’s slippery, so bring good shoes.
With kids: Easy to see right from the village. You may also enjoy the climb behind the falls, we did it with our kids ages 3, 8, and 11.
👉 Staubbach Falls is the picture you’ve probably seen a hundred times—and it’s even more magical in person.
