Maison Cailler (Broc)

If your family loves chocolate (and whose doesn’t?), Maison Cailler is a must-visit in the Gruyères area. This is Switzerland’s oldest chocolate brand, and the factory tour is part museum, part tasting experience. The workers here were SO nice and gave us so many free chocolates for the kids to take with them!

  • The tour: A walk-through experience that mixes storytelling, history, and behind-the-scenes looks at how chocolate is made. It ends with an all-you-can-taste sampling room where you can try everything from milk chocolate to pralines.

  • With kids: It’s interactive enough to keep kids engaged—smells, sounds, moving displays—and the tasting at the end is usually their favorite part. There’s also a café, shop, and a playground outside to run off the sugar rush.

  • Extra fun: You can book a chocolate workshop! If you can't get a spot, you can always decorate chocolate bars in the shop.

  • Details:

    • Location: Broc, about 10 minutes from Gruyères by car. 1.5 hours from Montreux. 2 hours from Geneva. If you're traveling from Montreux, you can get here via there "Chocolate train", which is free with your Swiss Travel Pass.

    • Cost: Around CHF 15 adults / CHF 6 children (6–15). Kids under 6 free. Free entrance with a Swiss Travel Pass. Discount with SBB Railaway offer.

    • Time: Plan about 1.5–2 hours for the visit.

You can pair this with a visit to the village of Gruyères plus the cheese factory for a perfect day!
