Ballenberg, Swiss Open-Air Museum

This huge open-air museum near Brienz is like stepping into a time machine. Over 100 traditional Swiss buildings have been moved here from all over the country—farmhouses, barns, and alpine huts—so you can explore what life was like in the past.

• With kids: Meet farm animals, watch demonstrations (cheese-making, wood carving, bread baking), and run around the big outdoor spaces.

• Plan at least half a day here—it’s spread out, so wear comfy shoes.

By public transport: Train to Brienz. Then Bus 151 from Brienz BE, Bahnhof to Ballenberg West, Museum.

By car: Museumsstrasse 9, 3856 Brienzwiler.
