Tanque Verde Falls, located on the east side of Tucson in the Rincon Mountains, is a stunning waterfall hike known for its dramatic desert canyon scenery and seasonal cascades. To reach the trailhead, you’ll need to drive a dirt road but most 2WD vehicles should be able to make it. The trail itself is short but rugged, requiring hikers to scramble across slick rock, boulders, and sandy washes before the trail opens up to a beautiful waterfall that flows strongest after rain or snowmelt. While the views are incredible, the terrain can be tricky so good footwear and caution are key. But those willing to make the trek will discover one of Southern Arizona’s most rewarding hidden oases.
