The King's House on Schachen is a charming villa nestled in the Bavarian mountains, built by Ludwig II of Bavaria between 1869 and 1872. Although often referred to as a hunting lodge, Ludwig actually used it for celebrations rather than hunting, as he wasn't a fan of the sport. The house features a unique "Turkish or Moorish Room" on the upper floor, lavishly decorated in an Oriental style, contrasting with the modest alpine chalet exterior. Visitors can also explore the adjacent Alpengarten auf dem Schachen, an alpine botanical garden showcasing over 1,000 plant species from the Alps to the Himalayas. You need to book a tour to visit the inside of the house.
