Made famous by Mulan, Yongding Tulou is one of the more famous and impressive tulou clusters.

About Yongding Tulou

Yongding Hakka Tulou in Fujian, China is a fascinating cluster of ancient earthen buildings that have been home to the Hakka people for centuries.

The Yongding area is home to some of the largest and more famous ones in Fujian and is a great place to spend a weekend exploring.

Hongkeng Cluster: This is the main tourist area at Yongding Tulou and houses Zhencheng Building - one of the more popular buidings in Fujian province as well as the Kuiju Building, a very tighlty packed building that is just fascinating to walk around.

Gaobei Cluster: This is probably the most famous tulou cluster thanks to Chengqi Building - the building made famous in Mulan. The building has 4 rings and contains about 400 rooms, as well as an ancestral hall at its centre for worship. Take a walk up the stairs and take a look from above.

Chuxi Cluster: Chuxi Cluster is hidden away on the hillside and is great for capturing shots of the clusters up against the green forest in the background.

Getting to Yongding Tulou

Yongding is not necessarily near an airport but you do have multiple options to get there.

Once in Fujian, you can either take the train to Longyan which has high-speed rail and 4 daily buses to Yongding tulou, o ryou could take the train to Nanjing and combine it with a trip to Tianluokeng at the same time!
