Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River ended up being one of my favorite sunset spots in Yellowstone. I decided to visit in the evening, and watching the golden light hit the canyon and waterfall made the entire view feel even more dramatic. The colors in the canyon during sunset looked incredible and made this stop feel very memorable.
One thing I really liked about this area is how accessible it is. You can enjoy amazing views without needing a long hike, and there are multiple viewpoints from both the upper and lower sections of the canyon. Even though this is one of Yellowstone’s most iconic spots, it didn’t feel as overwhelmingly crowded as places like Grand Prismatic.
The combination of the massive waterfall, colorful canyon walls, and river below makes this one of the best scenic viewpoints in the park, especially if you enjoy photography or sunset views.
