Agiofarago Beach lies 80km south of Heraklion, at the exit of Agiofarago Gorge. You can reach it by a 25-50 minute hike through the gorge or by boat from Matala, Agia Galini, Kokkinos Pirgos, or Kali Limenes. Hiking is highly recommended, as the towering gorge walls, caves with hermits, and the chapel of St. Anthony create a breathtaking route.

The beach itself features fine pebbles, crystal-clear waters, and a unique rocky arch perfect for swimming. Vertical cliffs surround the area, making it a serene and picturesque spot. However, due to its religious significance, nudism is discouraged.

How to Get There

From Heraklion, drive towards Sivas, then Odigitria Monastery, and take the dirt road towards St. Anthony’s church. Follow the sign to Agiofarago until you reach a small parking area. The hike is flat all the time.

Avoid parking under trees, as goats may climb on your car. From there, it’s a 30-minute walk through the gorge. There is also a small foodtruck called Kuna Muta.

There are no sunbeds or chairs on the beach, so make sure to bring your towel, food, drinks, and sunscreen.
