Rating: 👍 Worth a Visit

Born in Perth and lived here most of my life! If you like quiet this is a great place! It has the best beaches in Australia out of any city, though everything is quite far, so it's best if you have a car!

Top Things to Do

  • Rottnest Island – A short ferry away, famous for quokkas, beaches, and cycling with no cars around.

  • Kings Park & Botanic Garden – One of the largest inner-city parks in the world, with panoramic views over the Swan River and city skyline.

  • Cottesloe Beach – Iconic spot for swimming, snorkelling, and sunsets.

  • Fremantle Markets – A mix of history, street food, and bohemian charm.

  • Swan Valley Wine Region – WA’s oldest wine region, just 30 minutes from the city.

How Many Days to Spend

  • Minimum: 2–3 full days – Explore Kings Park, city laneways, Cottesloe Beach, and take a day trip to Rottnest Island.

  • Ideal: 4–5 days – Add Fremantle markets, Swan Valley wineries, Pinnacles Desert, and coastal sunsets in Scarborough or head up to the hills for hiking.

  • More time? Use Perth as a base to explore Western Australia’s southwest – road trip to Margaret River, Busselton, and Albany.

Best Time to Visit

  • Spring (Sep–Nov) for wildflowers and sunny days.

  • Summer (Dec–Feb) for beach weather, but it can get hot.

  • Autumn (Mar–May) for mild days and perfect hiking conditions.

  • Avoid June–August if you’re chasing dry, sunny adventures. This is Perth’s rainy season. (You could always head up to Kalbarri where the weather will be perfect!)

Where to Stay

  • Perth CBD – Good for city access, walkability, and public transport.

  • Fremantle – Ideal for a boho, coastal vibe.

  • Northbridge – Trendy, nightlife-friendly, and near the cultural precinct.

Where to Eat & Drink

  • Northbridge

  • Fremantle

  • Vic Park

Travel Tips

  • Public transport: Free CAT buses in the CBD. Use Transperth for trains/buses/ferries.

  • Tap water is safe to drink.

  • WA is BIG – Plan road trips carefully with fuel stops if heading out of town.

Budget Breakdown (per day)

  • Accommodation: $80–$250 AUD

  • Meals: $15–$50 AUD

  • Transport: $5–$20 AUD

  • Attractions: Mostly free or low-cost
Pro Tip: Many natural attractions are free, and you can picnic instead of eating out.

Getting There

  • Fly into Perth Airport (PER) from most major Australian cities.

  • Train: Indian Pacific connects Sydney–Adelaide–Perth (for train lovers!).

  • Car hire is recommended if you're planning to visit outer regions like Margaret River or Pinnacles Desert.
