Forts, Flavors & Feathers: The Ultimate Langley "Rural Refined" Day Trip

Langley isn't just a suburb—it’s a massive patchwork of historic riverfronts, high-end agricultural spirit-making, and hidden wildlife sanctuaries. We welcome you to enjoy a day exploring our beautiful home town that has surprisingly way more to offer than anyone might expect if they whiz past on highway 1.

This 1-day blueprint takes you from the birthplace of British Columbia to a sophisticated South Langley distillery, ending in the heart of the city’s growing culinary scene. Whether you're a history buff or a "Sip & Stroll" enthusiast, this is the perfect way to spend a Saturday in the Valley.

Parking Tip:
Fort Langley fills up fast by 11:00 AM. Use the large gravel lot behind the Fort if the street parking on Glover is full.

You are crossing from the North to the South of Langley; expect about 20 minutes of driving between the Fort and the Distillery.

Morning: The Birthplace of BC

09:00 AM | Coffee & Culture at Wendell's Bookstore & Cafe Start your morning in the heart of Fort Langley village. Grab an artisan latte and a fresh-baked muffin at Wendell's. It’s the local "town square," where the smell of old books and fresh espresso sets the tone for the day. If the sun is out, snag a spot on the patio for some prime people-watching.

10:30 AM | Step Back in Time at Fort Langley National Historic Site Walk a few blocks to the reconstructed 1800s fur-trading post. This is a Parks Canada "Hero Site" where the colony of British Columbia was officially proclaimed. Don’t miss the blacksmithing demonstrations or the chance to pan for real gold.

  • Activity Level: 1 (Relaxed) - Mostly flat, gravel walkways within the fort walls.

12:30 PM | The River Choice: Trail or Shops? After the Fort, you have two classic "Fort Langley" options:

  • The Active Path: Walk a portion of the Fort to Fort Trail Click to open side panel for more information . It’s a flat, scenic gravel path along the Fraser River with massive views of the mountains.

  • The Boutique Path: Wander Glover Road. From high-end antiques to local fashion, the village shops are world-class.

Afternoon: Spirits & Sanctuaries

02:30 PM | Farm-to-Glass at Roots & Wings Distillery Drive south into the rolling farmland to visit this family-owned craft distillery. They produce everything from vodka to whiskey using ingredients grown right on the property.

  • The Vibe: Their "Spirit Garden" is a masterclass in rural aesthetic. Enjoy a tasting flight or a seasonal cocktail (responsibly!) and pick up a bottle of their Vitality Vodka or Rebel Gin to take home.

04:00 PM | Golden Hour at Brydon Lagoon Click to open side panel for more information Head toward the Langley suburbs for a quiet "Nature Reset." This man-made sanctuary is a hidden gem for birders. We’ve seen everything from Trumpeter Swans to Great Blue Herons here. A flat 1.5km loop circles the lagoon, offering a peaceful, low-effort walk before dinner.
