This State Park is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise tucked away in the heart of southern Utah. Located near Cannonville, this vibrant park showcases 67 striking monolithic stone spires, known as sedimentary pipes, which accentuate multihued sandstone layers detailing over 180 million years of geologic history. The park’s dramatic landscape—characterized by bright blue skies, vivid rock formations, and wide open spaces—creates a tranquil, almost otherworldly experience.

A Pet-Friendly Desert Escape

This geologic treasure is not only a scenic marvel—it’s also dog-friendly. Kodachrome Basin offers a welcoming space for dogs and their owners to explore together. Leashed dogs are permitted on all trails, in campgrounds, and in most public areas of the park. Several dog waste stations are placed throughout the park to help keep the landscape clean and enjoyable for everyone.

Things to Do

Whether you're staying overnight or just visiting for the day, the park offers a wide array of activities:

  • Hiking: With multiple short and scenic trails, Kodachrome Basin is perfect for families, casual adventurers, and their pups. Popular trails include:

    • Panorama Trail (3–6 mile loop): Showcases key park landmarks like Ballerina Spire and Indian Cave.

    • Angel’s Palace Trail, Nature Trail, and Grand Parade Trail offer quicker but equally rewarding walks.

  • Camping: The park has 31 reservable campsites, including two campgrounds open year-round and two cozy bunkhouses.

    • Options range from standard sites to full hook-up RV sites and group camping areas.

    • Campgrounds feature modern restrooms with rain-style showerheads—seriously, some of the nicest, cleanest showers you’ll find on the road, and they’re completely free with your entry fee.

  • 3D Archery Course and Disc Golf Course: Try something new while soaking up the stunning surroundings.

  • Picnicking: Several scenic overlooks and shaded spots make this a perfect place to unwind with lunch or a sunset dinner.
