Donner Lake is a beautiful lake situated in the Truckee region of California's northeast. Located on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada and about 20 miles northwest of much larger Lake Tahoe, this lake offers pristine freshwater surrounded by stunning landscape. Fishing enthusiasts from all over flock to Donner lake for its abundant stock of lake trout, rainbow trout, and Kokanee salmon while water-sport lovers take advantage of its peaceful waters and natural setting to relax and play. In addition, Donner Lake's historic significance as the former overwintering spot of the ill-fated Donner Party only adds to its charm. With several different beaches, hiking trails, campsites, boat ramps, and snow shoeing, cross-country skiing spots around it, Donner Lake is sure to please all kinds of outdoor enthusiasts!
