The Laurenzenkirche, or St. Laurenzen Church, is a significant Protestant church located in the heart of St. Gallen.

Historically, the church served as a central hub for the city’s political and religious life, especially during the Reformation when it became the main church for Protestant citizens. The church features intricate architectural details, stunning stained glass windows by artist Max Brunner and a high altar adorned with sculptures of various saints.

During certain times throughout the week, you can even climb up to the tower. Up here, you get some seriously great views of the city, including the famous Cathedral.

The tower is open for climbing from March to November, with tours typically available Monday to Saturday from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

The ascent consists of 187 steps, leading you to a stunning panoramic view of St. Gallen’s terracotta rooftops, historic buildings and surrounding landscapes. The experience is not only rewarding but also offers a unique perspective of the city’s architectural beauty.

The cost for climbing the tower is 5 CHF for adults, making it an affordable and memorable activity during your visit.
