Wood Cabins and stays

Irish Coastline/ Cities, Ireland
If you’re looking to escape into the Irish wild but still want comfort and style, these wooden cabins and pods are some of my absolute favourite places. They’re not just “rustic”: they feel like thoughtful sanctuaries — places to reconnect, slow down, and breathe.
Up in Connemara, Co. Galway, there’s a tiny piece of magic called Fernwood. It’s on a woodland farm just outside Clifden, and they’ve built two unforgettable hideouts: the Treehouse Dome and the Stilt House. The Treehouse Dome is a geodesic wooden dome tucked up in the trees, around 5 meters above the forest floor. It’s so peaceful — you sleep on a super-king bed, light the wood-burning stove, and there’s a large deck to just sit on and listen to the leaves.
The Stilt House is their architectural showstopper — pine plywood inside, huge windows that open to the treetops, and a wood-fired Swedish hot tub hidden out the back so you can soak in nature. They’ve done it in a super eco way, with triple-glazed windows and green heating systems, so it’s both luxurious and sustainable.
Then, down in County Kildare, there’s the Eco Barn Cabins at Burtown House. These feel like little designer barns set in a wildflower meadow, with wood-burning stoves, big windows, and a cast-iron bath right on the terrace. It’s quiet, super private, and feels intentionally made to slow your heart rate down.
Heading to the southeast, in Waterford, the Forest Eco Cabins on Mount Congreve Estate are absolute serenity. These cabins (called Bramble, Hawthorn, Maple, Fern, Beech, etc.) are handcrafted from wood, tucked into the forest, and many even have their own outdoor hot tubs. You also get access to the gardens, and it’s such a special feeling to walk the paths after the rest of the world has gone to bed.
On the west coast, in County Clare, there’s Pure Space — off-grid wooden cabins that run on solar and lantern light. The cabins are simple but warm, with wood-burning stoves and decks with fire pits. Some cabins (like the “Holly” cabin) are tucked into a private grove, so you feel totally immersed in nature.
Then there’s Finn Lough, which is a little different but equally magical. They have Bubble Domes and River Cabins tucked in a forest by Lough Erne, in Co. Fermanagh (Northern Ireland). The Bubble Domes are transparent, so you can stargaze all night, and the premium ones even have a roll-top bath overlooking the forest. The River Cabins sit right on the water, blending architecture and nature beautifully. The estate also has spa facilities, forest saunas, and lake plunge pools for the ultimate nature retreat.
Finally, if you want something classy but still very natural in a city-ish spot, check out the Woodland Suites at The Montenotte in Cork City, Co. Cork. These timber-clad suites are raised slightly among the trees. Glass walls, private terraces, and all the luxuries you could dream of — while still feeling like a treehouse.
