Obazda: Obazda is a type of dip/spread similar to cream cheese. It is delicious with a pretzel or vegetables.

Weiss Wurst: Normally weiss wurst is ordered as a breakfast meal. It is typically served with two white sausages in a broth, accompanied by sweet mustard and a pretzel (brezel).

Pretzel (Brezel): Trust me when I say this is one of the best Bavarian snacks! Take a perfectly baked pretzel (brezel in German), slice it in half and fill it with butter. Sometimes with herbs but plain butter is also delicious. Get these at any bakery or even gas stations.

Kaiserschmarrn: This dish can be eaten as a dessert but is also eaten as a post hike meal. It is essentially pancake strips that have been fried in a pan with caramelized sugar. Normally served with applesauce or a fruit compote for dipping.

Pumpkin Soup: This is on a lot of menus in the region and it is always delicious. You can usually order it through the fall and winter.

Gröstl: A mix of fried potatoes, onions, and meat. Usually comes in a skillet. A filling and tasty dish.

Beer: Beer is essentially the official drink of Bavaria. Beer brewing has a long history in this area and there are even laws governing how it is made. Only with 4 ingredients: water, malt, hops, and yeast. Helles is light beer, Weizen is wheat beer, Dunkel is dark beer. There are more varieties, but that will get you started!

Spritz: Europeans love a good spritz and there are several types to try. You may already know an aperol spriz, but have you tried a Hugo? A Hugo is prosecco, elderflower liqueur, sparkling water, lime, and mint. Also try a Lillet Wild Berry, as the name suggests a more berry flavored spritz. These are best enjoyed on a patio in the sun!

Schorle: A schorle is another very typical drink here, this time non-alcoholic. It is basically a mix of fruit juice and sparkling water. You can get it in many varieties depending on what type of juice you like. The most common is apfelschorle (apple) but another good one to try is johannisbeerschorle which is black current.
