Prague: A Local’s Guide

Exploring the City Center

Take a free walking tour: I highly recommend starting with a free tour; the history is absolutely fascinating. You simply leave a tip of your choice at the end and tours are available in all languages.

Staroměstské Náměstí: The iconic Old Town Square, right in the heart of the city.

The Jewish Quarter: A historic area with a profound atmosphere.

Charles Bridge: A must-visit. For a stunning perspective, climb the bridge towers to see the city from above.

Riverside Strolls: Take a walk along the Vltava. For sunset, head to Čapadlo, a riverside bar with live music and a perfect vibe.

River Picnic: For a unique experience, rent a pedal boat. You can bring your own food and drinks for a private picnic on the water.

Střelecký Ostrov: This island in the middle of the river offers beautiful views. During the summer, it hosts small bars and occasional live music.

Letná Park (must-see): This is a local favorite with the best views in Prague. You’ll find a new lake, a perfect lookout point, and a skater area featuring a giant Metronome (where a statue of Stalin once stood). Don’t miss the beer garden for a relaxing drink.

The Castle District (Hradčany)

The Scenic Route: Take Tram 22 from the center to the Pohořelec stop. From there, you can enjoy a leisurely downhill walk toward the castle.

Strahov Monastery: A great spot for a beer with incredible views. It also houses a stunning, historic library.

Petřín Hill: Wander through the gardens and enjoy the greenery.

Prague Castle: Walk through the castle grounds and gardens, then head down toward Malostranské Náměstí, which leads back to Charles Bridge.

John Lennon Wall: A vibrant symbol of peace and art.

Kampa Island: Located nearby, this area and the rest of Malá Strana are incredibly charming and picturesque.

Other local favorites

Riegrovy Sady: Another park famous for its sunset views. It has a great atmosphere where people grab drinks and sit on the grass.

A Night at the Arts: For something special, catch a ballet or opera at the National Theatre (Národní Divadlo) or the State Opera (Státní Opera). Affordable tickets can often be found for around €20.
