Brennisteinsalda, also known as the Sulphur Wave, is a stunning rainbow-colored mountain located in Landmannalaugar, Iceland. This epic hike combines the best of what Landmannalaugar has to offer: lava fields, geothermal features, and breathtaking panoramic views. It even includes a short section of the famous Laugavegur Trail, Iceland's most renowned multi-day trek. The trail can be a bit confusing, with changing trail markers and signs, but with careful attention, hikers can navigate their way through Graenagil canyon, the Laugarhaun lava field, and up to the summit of Brennisteinsalda. From the top, you'll be rewarded with jaw-dropping vistas of Landmannalaugar and the surrounding landscapes. It's a moderate hike that takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete, making it a must-do for nature enthusiasts visiting Iceland.
