The Foss Hot Spring, located close to Akureyri in northern Iceland, is a geothermal pool and waterfall that has recently become the talk of the town owing to its incredible views from the air. The pool has an interesting story behind it; in 2014, a controlled explosion caused a massive leak of natural, geothermal water in a nearby tunnel, resulting in the creation of a river and geothermal pool at the base of a cliff. The setting of this spot is perfect for swimming and relaxation in the Icelandic summer, and visitors are invited to take advantage of the untouched experience before it is turned into a spa. Taking the utmost precaution when visiting the pool is important, as there is no safe way to swim once darkness falls. The trip is worth the effort however, thanks to the spectacular views on offer.
