Helsinki Airport (HEL) is one of the easiest and most traveler-friendly airports in the WORLD. I love our airport a lot and miss it every time I'm traveling abroad. It’s super modern, compact, and everything works smoothly and quickly – classic Finnish efficiency at its best. Plus, the design has a cozy Nordic vibe that makes arriving (or saying goodbye) a little nicer. There's loads of shops and restaurants, so come early and enjoy them!

The airport is located in Vantaa, about 18 km north of Helsinki city center, and getting to and from the city is super easy.

How to get to Helsinki from the airport:

• Train: The fastest, cheapest and easiest option is the local train (lines I and P), which runs directly between the airport and Helsinki Central Station. The trip takes about 30 minutes, and trains leave every 10 minutes during the day. The train costs only 4.4€ if you buy an ABC ticket with HSL app at a ticket machine. You can also buy an adult single ticket on the train with contactless payment. Simply select the zones (ABC) and show your bank or credit card to the reader. The ticket will be issued to your bank card. With contactless payment, the ticket price is €4.70.

  A single ABC ticket for adults is valid for 90 minutes and you can use it on trams and metro in the city center for the whole 90min. For longer travel needs, grab a 24-hour or longer ticket for the desired duration. The same ticket allows you to travel on all HSL transport.

• Bus: There’s also a Finnair City Bus and other local buses, but I’d go for the train – it’s smoother and less affected by traffic.

• Taxi & Rideshare: Taxis are available outside arrivals. The fixed fare to the city center is around €30–€40 depending on the company and time of day.

• Rental Car: If you’re heading straight out to explore Finland, rental car desks are located right at the airport.

Good to know:
The airport has great services, from Finnish design shops to cozy cafés serving cinnamon buns and coffee. And if you’re flying out early, there are a couple of nice airport hotels within walking distance from the terminal.
