Edvard Munch was a Norwegian painter who is known for his iconic picture, The Scream. He had a tragic childhood and increasing influence of nihilism which led him to live a bohemian life and paint his own emotional and psychological state. Through travelling he drew inspiration from others such as Paull Gaugin, Vincent Van Gogh and Henri de Toulouse - Lautrec. His work was primarily in painting and graphic art which brought him fame and wealth all in time for World War II. Edvard Munch’s emotive works explore themes of love, anxiety, jealousy and betrayal, while his most famous work, The Scream, embodies the angst and pain of modern personhood.
