Sinjarheim is a high farm located in the municipality of Aurland, Norway. Located 600 metres above sea level and surrounded by gorges, canyons, and waterfalls, Sinjarheim was the last farm in Aurlandsdalen to be deserted in 1922. It lies amidst a dramatic landscape, giving a truly unique experience. The farm consists of six buildings and a small drying shed. In 1987, the Bergen branch of the Society for Preservation of Norwegian Ancient Monuments started restoration work on the site with many volunteers taking part. The Sogn Agricultural and Horticultural College have since 1993 used Sinjarheim as a summer mountain farm, asking students to milk cows and goats and make cheese which is transported down to the village by packhorses. All in all, it is a truly special place where visitors can gain an appreciation for the history and beauty of every corner of Norway.
