Here I share a 3-day itinerary to help you make the most of your trip. El Chaltén is a small mountain town nestled in the heart of Los Glaciares National Park, in Argentina’s Santa Cruz province. Known as the trekking capital of Argentina, it's the perfect base for exploring breathtaking landscapes, including the iconic Mount Fitz Roy, turquoise lagoons, and hanging glaciers. With its laid-back vibe and untouched surroundings, El Chaltén is a must-visit for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
Day 1

A perfect hike for stunning views of the surrounding mountains and wildlife, especially if you’re lucky enough to catch sight of the majestic condors! 🦅 I suggest you to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon, as they are out to hunt!
⏱️ Duration: Approximately 1 hour round trip.
📏 Distance: About 3.5 km in total.
🏞️ Difficulty: Easy, with a gradual ascent.
📍 Starting Point: the trail beginning near the El Chaltén Visitor Center.

The Paredon Viewpoint Trail offers a scenic hike with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The trail is relatively easy and perfect for a leisurely stroll to take in the beauty of nature. Hikers can enjoy panoramic vistas and maybe even spot some wildlife along the way. Overall, it's a great spot to unwind and connect with the outdoors.

Laguna de los Tres
Iconic trek with stunning views
The Laguna de Los Tres hike in El Chalten is a must-do for nature lovers seeking jaw-dropping views of Mt. Fitz Roy and to a turquoise lake at the foot of the majestic mountain.
⏱️ Duration: Approximately 8-9 hours round trip.
📏 Distance: About 20 km in total.
🏞️ Difficulty: Challenging, with a steep final ascent of 400m in just 1 km. Be prepared for a tough climb.
📍 Starting Point: El Chaltén (via the trailhead near Río Blanco or through Laguna Capri).
💵 Entrance Fee: Need to pay to enter to the National Park. Check the prices here

HOW TO GET TO THE STARTING POINT
🚶 The trail starts directly from the town El Chaltén, making it accessible on foot.
🚗 You can save 1 hour of trekking if you take a transfer to Río Eléctrico and start from there, passing by El Glaciar Piedras Blancas.

This scenic trek takes you through lush Patagonian forests and along crystal-clear streams, culminating in a stunning view of the Glaciar Huemul .
⏱️ Duration: Approximately 2-3 hours round trip.
📏 Distance: About 4 km in total.
🏞️ Difficulty: Moderate, with a steep incline near the end. Be prepare to climb a little bit.
📍 Starting Point: Near Lago del Desierto.
💵 Entrance Fee: you need to buy a ticket to enter to the trail (only cash)
How to Get There from El Chaltén:
🚗 The trailhead is located near Lago del Desierto, about 37 km from El Chaltén.
🚌 You can reach it by car, taxi (approximately 1-1.5 hours), or shuttle service.
⚠️ The road is gravel, so drive carefully if using a private vehicle.
Useful Tips
🥾 Wear sturdy hiking boots as the trail can be muddy and uneven.
🧥 Dress in layers to adapt to Patagonia’s unpredictable weather.
