Krýsuvík is a captivating geothermal region on the Reykjanes Peninsula, renowned for its vibrant mineral-rich landscapes, steaming vents, and bubbling mud pools. The most accessible and popular section is Seltún, where wooden boardwalks guide visitors safely through the geothermal wonders.

🚗 Road

Krýsuvík is located along Route 42, approximately 35–40 minutes from Reykjavík. A designated parking area is available.

❄️ Winter

The geothermal area remains open during winter months. However, visitors should exercise caution, as boardwalks and paths can become icy and slippery.

🥾 Hike

While the main geothermal features are easily accessible via boardwalks, the surrounding area offers hiking opportunities. Trails lead up the Sveifluháls ridge, providing panoramic views of the geothermal landscape and nearby Kleifarvatn lake. These hikes are moderately challenging and suitable for those with a reasonable fitness level.

🚻 Facilities

Bathrooms available on site.

⚠️ Safety Notes

  • The geothermal features are extremely hot and can be dangerous; always stay on marked paths and viewing platforms.
