Brimketill is a naturally formed lava rock pool just west of Grindavík. Carved by relentless wave action over centuries, this dramatic coastal feature is steeped in folklore-legend says it was once the bathing spot of the troll woman Oddný.
🚗 Road
There is a short access road leading to parking lot. There's a lot of sand at the parking area, so be careful where you stop so you don't get stuck if you have 2wd.
❄️ Winter
The site remains accessible year-round, but winter visitors should be cautious. The path and viewing platform can become slippery due to ice, and strong coastal winds and big waves are common.
🥾 Hike
A short, well-maintained path leads from the parking area to a viewing platform overlooking Brimketill.
🚻 Facilities
There are no facilities at Brimketill.
⚠️ Safety Notes
Do not attempt to enter the pool.
It can become too dangerous to visit during the stormy weather as the big waves break against the shore where the viewing platform is.
