The General Sherman Tree Trail in Sequoia National Park offers visitors a chance to see the largest known living single-stem tree on Earth. The trail is a 0.5-mile (0.8 km) or 1.1 (1.7km) (depending on where you park) paved path that descends approximately 200 feet (61 meters) from the parking area to the base of the General Sherman Tree. Along the way, interpretive exhibits provide information about the natural history of giant sequoias. While the walk down is relatively easy, the return trip is uphill and can be moderately strenuous. Benches are available along the trail for rest stops.

During the summer months, a free shuttle service operates from late May to early September, offering an alternative for the uphill return. The trailhead is located off Wolverton Road, between the Sherman Tree and Lodgepole, with clear signage directing visitors to the parking area.

Pet-friendly: No, pets are not permitted.

Soft adventure: Yes, absolutely!

Seasonality: Summer (the road inside the park does often have seasonal closures in the winter)

Fee: $35 per vehicle
