Kirby Cove Campground is a secluded, tent-only camping area nestled within the Marin Headlands, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. This hidden gem offers campers breathtaking views of San Francisco Bay, the iconic bridge, and the rugged Pacific coastline. Accessible via a steep, mile-long trail descending through a grove of cypress, eucalyptus, and pine trees, the campground provides a serene escape from urban life. With only five campsites and one day-use picnic area, Kirby Cove ensures a peaceful and intimate outdoor experience. Each site is equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and bear-proof food lockers, but campers must bring their own water, as none is available on-site. 

The campground’s proximity to historic Battery Kirby adds a touch of history to the natural beauty, and the nearby beach offers a perfect spot for relaxation and photography. While the facilities are basic, including vault toilets and no electricity, the unparalleled scenery and tranquility make it a sought-after destination for campers seeking a unique experience. Reservations are required and can be made up to six months in advance through Recreation.gov. 

Due to its limited number of sites and high demand, it’s advisable to book early to secure a spot at this picturesque campground.
