Himuro Shrine sits next to the Nara Park and yet it is not a much visited shrine. It was founded in the 8th century and it once oversaw the ancient practice of storing ice in icehouses (himuro) for the imperial court. Here you can try its omikuji, fortune telling slips, that will reveal your fortune after you lay on top of an ice cube at the entrance. It is a peaceful stop near the Nara park and Todaiji temple, perfect for a short visit and beautoful photos.
