Castiglione d'Orcia is a charming town located in the heart of Val d'Orcia, Tuscany. Compared to more popular destinations like Pienza and San Quirico d'Orcia, Castiglione offers a much quieter and more relaxed atmosphere. It’s often overlooked by tourists, but in my opinion, it’s one of the most underrated and rewarding towns in the area.
Perched on a hilltop, the town boasts breathtaking views over the Val d'Orcia valley, making it an ideal spot for photography and peaceful walks. Castiglione d'Orcia combines history, beauty, and tranquility, offering a perfect mix for those seeking an authentic Tuscan experience.
Its medieval streets, historic piazzas, and the imposing Rocca di Tentennano fortress add to its charm, while the small crowds makes exploring it even more enjoyable. It doesn’t take long to visit the main sights, just a few hours, but it’s also a great place to linger. Grab a meal at a local restaurant, enjoy a glass of red wine, and soak in the views.
Castiglione d'Orcia should definitely be on your list when exploring the Val d'Orcia.
