Set between vineyards and olive groves, this elegant château rises above one of the most beautiful villages in the Luberon. It feels refined without being overwhelming, and easy to explore at your own pace.

The Château de Lourmarin, located in the heart of Lourmarin, is considered the first Renaissance château in Provence. Built in the 15th century on the remains of a medieval fortress, it was later expanded in the 16th century with a Renaissance wing that gives the building its distinctive character.

Inside, you’ll find a mix of historic architecture, furnished rooms, and cultural spaces, with exhibitions, libraries, and collections reflecting different periods. The castle was restored in the 1920s by Robert Laurent-Vibert, who saved it from ruin and transformed it into a cultural site. Today, it hosts concerts, exhibitions, and artist residencies, keeping the place alive beyond its historical role.

The visit is straightforward and well-organized, with information panels, optional audioguides, and seasonal guided tours. It’s also a good stop for families, with activities designed for children.

👉 Local Tip: Visit in the late afternoon, then stay in Lourmarin for dinner. The village becomes calmer as day visitors leave, and the château area feels much more atmospheric.
