Crash Boat Beach is one of the most popular beaches.
The beach got its unusual name from the U.S. Air Force era, when Ramey Air Force Base operated nearby. Rescue and crash boats were stationed here to respond to aircraft emergencies — and the name stuck long after the base closed.
The water is a stunning turquoise. The inner area near the pier is calm and shallow, making it excellent for swimming and snorkeling.
One of the beach’s most iconic features is its long, vibrantly painted wooden pier stretching out into the sea. It’s a hub of activity — people fish from it, jump off it into the crystal water below, and gather on it to watch sunsets. The pier is arguably the most photographed spot in Aguadilla.
Crash Boat has a wonderfully lively, local atmosphere. On weekends especially, it fills with Puerto Rican families, with the smell of grilled food from nearby kiosks, reggaeton music, and the sound of kids playing in the surf. It feels authentically local rather than resort-polished.
A row of casual food kiosks lines the beach, serving up fresh seafood, cold drinks, and classic Puerto Rican snacks like alcapurrias and piña coladas. Parking, restrooms, and showers are also available on site. **MAKE SURE NOT TO PARK ON THE SREET, OVER THE LINE OR YOU WILL GET A STEEP TICKET!**
The rocky areas around the pier and along the edges of the beach offer surprisingly good snorkeling, with colorful fish, sea urchins, and coral visible in the clear, shallow water.
Facing west, Crash Boat delivers spectacular sunsets, with the sky turning fiery orange and pink over the open water — one of the best sunset spots on the island.
