Get ready for one of Madeira's most enchanting walks, the Levada das 25 Fontes. Your journey begins with a descent on a paved road—which you can skip with a shuttle bus after 10 a.m.—leading you to the trailhead cafe. From there, you'll follow a narrow levada (an irrigation channel) deep into a lush laurel forest. The main path, which is about 11km round trip and takes 3-4 hours, leads to a magical amphitheater where 25 natural springs cascade into a crystal-clear lagoon. For an extra reward, take the short detour to the breathtaking Risco waterfall. Be sure to arrive early, ideally before 9 a.m., to avoid the crowds and enjoy the tranquility of this UNESCO World Heritage site. There is a small state fee of €3 per person to access the trail.
