Carneiro beach, located in the city of Porto, is urban in nature. Bounded to the south by Molhe de Felgueiras, this beach has an extensive stretch of fine sand. In the 19th century, it was one of the most popular bathing areas, along with that of the English. Its name dates back to the time when shepherds settled near the coast, where pasture for their flocks was abundant. According to popular belief, one of the sheep, which grazed in the vicinity of this beach, got lost from the rest and was immortalized on top of the Chalé Suíço (romantic style kiosk, located on Passeio Alegre).
