Info: Þakgil is a hidden gem in South Iceland, nestled between Mýrdalsjökull glacier and Mýrdalssandur. Known as the "Roof Canyon," it's like an oasis with lush green valleys and spiky mountains covered in velvety moss.

Accessibility:: the best way to reach Thakgil is with your car. The road road until there is not paved and I would recommend you to have a 4WD vehicle. It is possible to get there in a normal car, but I would advise against it

Things to do: Multiple hiking trails start from the campground, from a few minutes to a few hours. We decided to take the Ravine walk which was about 20 minutes

Where to spend the night: there is a campground located at Thakgil. If you don't travel with a camper van the closest town is Vik
