Praia de Machico is a unique beach in Madeira as it is one of the only two golden sand beaches on the island! 🏝️

The reason for this is that the sand was actually shipped in from the Sahara Desert in Morocco! 🐪

Madeira isn't known for its beaches – that's all for the beautiful neighbouring island, Porto Santo – but there are a few really good ones, and Machicho Beach is one of them (along with the other golden sand beach, Calheta Beach, and the famous black sand beach, Seixal Beach) 🏖️

Fun fact: Praia de Machico is actually the place where Madeira's discoverers first landed in 1419. It obviously looked a lot different back then!
