You might have seen my Florina video in the snow that went viral.
At first, nobody believed that this scenery was in Greece, as it looked more something like in Finland or Norway, rather than Greece.
Indeed, the drive from the city of Florina to the mountainous town of Pisoderi is one of the most spectacular car rides in Greece, especially right after a snowfall. The beech trees keep all the snow on their branches, it freezes and then creates a scenery which is made out of dreams, turning the drive into a winter wonderland. It really is one of my best recommendations when it comes to exploring unknown places in the Greek mainland.
As for Pisoderi itself, it's the closest thing we've got to a ski village in Greece, as it sits right next to the Vigla-Pisoderi ski resort. If you decide to stay at Pisoderi, you'll be watching the skiers enjoying the slopes, right from your window. Winters are harsh up there, as the village lies at an altitude of 1,400m on Mt Varnous. The town is a small one and has got just a few small hotels run by locals. The closest big 5-star resort is Lynx, in the city of Florina.
Regarding things to do and see in the area, very near Pisoderi are the magnificent Prespa Lakes, ideal for all 4 seasons. You also have the town of Kastoria by the lake, the mountainous picturesque town of Nymphaio, as well as the "Arcturos" Sanctuaries of the brown bear and the grey wolf in Nymphaio and Sklithro respectively.
