Location:

The Huon Pine Walk is located in Tahune Forest Reserve, south-west Tasmania, near the Huon River. Access is via the Huon Highway (A6), with a short drive to the walk’s starting point at the Tahune AirWalk visitor area. Parking is available at the trailhead.

Hike length:

Approximately 2.5 km return, taking around 45–60 minutes depending on pace and how long you spend admiring the trees and the boardwalk sections.

Difficulty Level:

Easy — the trail is mostly flat, well-formed, and suitable for most walkers, including families. Some sections are boardwalk or gravel paths.

Entry cost / Park passes:

A valid parks pass is required for entry to Tasmania’s national parks. For example:

• A Daily Pass (up to 24 hours): Per vehicle (up to 8 people) costs AUD $47.70. A per‑person pass (travelling by bus, cycle or on foot) costs AUD $23.85. 

• A Holiday Pass (up to 2 months): Per vehicle (up to 8 people) costs AUD $95.50. Per person (travelling by bus/cycle/foot) costs AUD $47.75. 
This “holiday” option gives you access to all Tasmanian national parks for up to two months from the start date.

The Huon Pine Walk takes you through ancient rainforest along the banks of the Huon River. The trail highlights some of Tasmania’s famous Huon pine trees, which can live for over 2,000 years. Interpretive signs along the track provide information about the history, ecology, and uses of the Huon pine.

The walk includes boardwalk sections over the river and wet areas, making it easy to navigate and suitable for all ages. This short trail is ideal as a gentle introduction to Tasmania’s temperate rainforests and a perfect stop when visiting the Tahune AirWalk, which is nearby.
