Myra Falls, specifically Lower Myra Falls, is a stunning seven-tiered waterfall in Strathcona Provincial Park. It plunges into Buttle Lake and is known for its beautiful, teal-colored pools. Upper Myra Falls is located upstream and is a 23-meter-high sliding punchbowl waterfall.
Lower Myra Falls: Location: Strathcona Provincial Park, on the south end of Buttle Lake.
Description: A seven-tiered waterfall cascading into a turquoise pool.
Accessibility: Easy, short hike from the Boliden Westmin mine. The trail is wide and maintained, but is steep on the way down and a push back up to the top for some. I get my dog to pull me up the hill sometimes.
Features: Lush forests, scenic views, and opportunities for swimming in the cool pool (be prepared for cold water).
Upper Myra Falls: Location: 6 km upstream from Lower Myra Falls.
Description: A 23-meter-high sliding punchbowl waterfall in a densely forested canyon.
Accessibility: A moderate 7.5 km hiking trail.
Features: Old-growth forest, less-trafficked trail, and a less spectacular (but still beautiful) waterfall.
Other Details: The area is known for its diverse wildlife, including black bears, Roosevelt elk, and various smaller animals. The falls were featured in the opening scene of the movie "The Scarlet Letter" and "Chief of War" with Jason Mamoa. There are other trails in the area leading to Price Creek, Philips Ridge, Tennent Lake, and Mount Myra.
