Barcelona, Spain

One of the best things about Barcelona is its location. If you have an extra day (or two), there are plenty of incredible destinations just a short train or drive away. Here are my favourite day trips:

⛰️ Montserrat

A must-visit if you love nature, hiking, or breathtaking views. Home to the famous Benedictine monastery, Montserrat offers scenic trails, panoramic viewpoints, and one of the most unique landscapes in Catalonia. You can easily reach it by train from Barcelona in about 1.5 hours.

🌊 Sitges

Just 40 minutes by train, Sitges is one of my favourite coastal escapes. It has beautiful beaches, a charming old town, a lovely promenade, and plenty of great restaurants and cafĂŠs. It's the perfect destination if you're looking for a relaxed beach day away from the city.

🏖️ Costa Brava

If you have access to a car (or don't mind joining a tour), the Costa Brava is absolutely worth visiting. Think crystal-clear coves, dramatic cliffs, picturesque fishing villages, and some of the most beautiful beaches in Spain. Towns like Calella de Palafrugell, Begur, Tossa de Mar, and CadaquĂŠs are all fantastic choices, although some are better suited for a full-day road trip.

🍷 Penedès Wine Region

Wine lovers shouldn't miss the Penedès region, famous for its vineyards and Cava, Spain's sparkling wine. Many wineries offer guided tours and tastings, making it a great option for a relaxing day surrounded by beautiful countryside.

🏛️ Girona

Only about 40 minutes away by high-speed train, Girona is one of the most beautiful cities in Catalonia. Wander through its colorful riverside houses, medieval streets, impressive cathedral, and one of Europe's best-preserved Jewish Quarters. It's an excellent choice if you're interested in history, architecture, and photography.

🌾 Tarragona

Less than an hour from Barcelona, Tarragona is home to some of the best-preserved Roman ruins in Spain, including a spectacular seaside amphitheatre. It's a great mix of history, beaches, and a relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere.
